Volunteer

The Lancashire Science Festival team are looking for enthusiastic individuals to get involved with our eighth multi-award-winning festival. Our successful three-day event consistently attracts thousands of visitors from across the North West, with 2018 having a total reach of more than 17,000 people. As a volunteer, you will help to amaze, inspire, enthuse and engage our future generations, and contribute to our objective of helping to keep our school and family programmes free of charge and accessible to all.

Please note only University of Central Lancashire Students can apply due to University insurance.

The deadline to apply to volunteer is Sunday 31 March 2019.

Volunteering days:
• Thursday 27 June, 7.30am – 4.00pm
• Friday 28 June, 7.30am – 4.00pm
• Saturday 29 June, 7.30am – 5.00pm

  • Festival Showfloor Assistant

    Festival Showfloor Assistant

    From event set up to customer liaison, we are looking for an enthusiastic individual to assist on one of our busy and fast-paced Showfloors

    Festival Showfloor Assistant

    Tasks in this role:

    * Working with the Showfloor Manager to set up the Showfloor
    * Liaising with external organisations
    * Break down of the location after the festival is over
    * Ensuring the Showfloor is tidy at all times
    * Setting up exhibition stands

    How much time do I need to commit?

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer for the three days of the festival which will be taking place on Thursda7 27 June, Friday 28 June and Saturday 29 June.

  • Festival Assistant

    Festival Assistant

    From helping with event logistics to solving problems, you will experience how large scale events work and how customer service is key

    * Setting up event equipment in various locations across campus
    * Help to manage school groups attending the festival
    * Delivering lunch, directing groups and dealing with lost property etc
    * Using social media to promote the festival
    * Assisting festival attendees on the day by dealing with enquiries

  • Control Centre Assistant

    Control Centre Assistant

    We are looking for someone who wants to be involved in the planning, delivery and operation of our Event Control Centre

    Control Centre Assistant

    Tasks in this role:

    * Receive incoming contact from the Event Team
    * Logging calls appropriately on the system
    * Work through open issues during the event and making contact to get these resolved
    * Assisting with administrative elements of the control centre, such as radio issue, logging and general housekeeping
    * Escalating any issues you deem of high importance to the Event Control Manager
    * Assisting with general event operations at the festival if and when required

    How much time do I need to commit?

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer and commit to the full three days of the festival which are Thursday 28 June, Friday 29 June and Saturday 30 June.

    Our festival shop sells lots of awesome souvenirs to help our visitors remember their special visit. We are looking for friendly volunteers to help run our shop

    * Assisting customers and responding to queries and questions
    * Cash handling
    * Stock audit during break down

  • Festival School Assistant

    Festival School Assistant

    On each school day we have over 2,500 school students on campus. We need some enthusiastic volunteers to guide these groups and ensure they have the best day possible

    Tasks in this role:

    * Supporting Student Ambassadors in guiding school groups around the festival
    * Welcoming the school visitors to the festival
    * Responding to school queries and provide information regarding their festival programme when required
    * Encouraging the teachers and students to participate and engage in activities

    How much time do I need to commit?

    We are looking for someone to volunteer and commit to our festival school days which are Thursday 27 and Friday 28 June. On Saturday 29 June during our Family Day, there will be an additional Festival Assistant role and this will be discussed at the selection event.

    Festival Check-in Assistant

    We want our visitors to have the best time possible, so we like to greet them with a huge smile and get them checked in efficiently and answer any questions they have

    Tasks in this role:

    * Welcome festival visitors on the Family Day of the festival
    * Check-in pre-registered guests
    * Register walk-up visitors
    * Distribute festival guides and lanyards
    * Use social media to promote the festival
    * Respond to festival enquiries and make recommendations to visitors

    How much time do I need to commit? 

    We are looking for someone to be able to volunteer and commit to the Family Day of the festival, which is Saturday 29 June. Further volunteering opportunities will be available on Thursday 27 June and Friday 28 June during the festival’s School Days.
