The Lancashire Science Festival is hosted by the University of Central Lancashire, at the Preston Campus. Look out for the signs for the University or the yellow AA signage for Lancashire Science Festival.

Free parking is available across all UCLan Campus car parks during our Family Day on Saturday 29 June. Please note that on-campus parking is limited so please check out our Parking FAQ for other options or please consider using public transport. Further details of sustainable travel options can be found below or on our campus map.

On arrival (Family Day only) please ensure that you head to one of the check-in points.

Due to the UCLan Masterplan, it may take you a little longer to reach the festival. This map outlines the new road layout, which will complement the University’s Student Centre and new civic square, the final key part of our transformational Campus Masterplan. The roads will allow for two-way traffic to move around the square freely, keeping traffic queues to a minimum and creating a safer vehicular environment. Pedestrians will benefit from wider, more level footpaths and a more welcoming, green environment provided by many semi-mature trees, planters and an attractive granite finish.

Victoria Street:

Victoria Street, from its junctions with Adelphi Street and Moor Lane, will be closed week commencing 10 June for approximately nine weeks, where the road will be widened to allow for bus diversions. When the project is complete, Adelphi Street, from its junctions with St Peter’s Street to Victoria Street, will become pedestrianised.

Access to Harrington, Greenbank and Allen buildings will be from the south (Harrington and Whitendale Car Park). Access to Brook Building will be from Adelphi Street. There will be pedestrian access provided to Ribble Halls from Victoria Street’s junction with Sizer Street. All other pedestrian pavements will be shut. Pedestrians will be asked to cross Victoria Street at its junctions with Adelphi Street and Moor Lane, the crossing will not be permitted anywhere else along the road.

This work will prevent vehicular access to Greenbank, Brook and Ribble car parks. The Car Parking Team have done a thorough audit of our car parking capacity since the end of April and it has become apparent that due to this being a quieter period, that we will be able to accommodate the displacement of these spaces on other University car parks. Disabled car parking places will be relocated on the Dental Car Park in front of Allen Building during this time. The situation will be monitored throughout the summer and we will send out another communication if this should change. Please direct any queries to the Masterplan Team.

Adelphi Roundabout:

Works to the Adelphi roundabout will take place from June 10 to facilitate new traffic diversions, that will be in place for a two-year period until completion of the scheme. These will include removing the triangular centre from outside Ships and Giggles on Fylde Road, working on the road through the centre of the gyratory and creating a temporary carriageway where the public toilets currently stand. The majority of this work will be completed by the end of July to facilitate phase 2. These works will not result in any closures but will be controlled with temporary traffic lights and diversions.

Full pedestrian access will be available throughout all phases of the highways works, but cyclists will be asked to dismount and use pedestrian routes until completion of the project.

Access to all University buildings, local businesses and properties will remain open although we would ask that you allow more time to complete your journeys whilst navigating the University Campus.
