Investigate, Experiment, Discover!

As part of the Lancashire Science Festival this year we asked scientists, engineers and mathematicians from across UCLan to share with us their favourite experiments. Click on the links below to see some of the activities. Please note that whilst all of these experiments can be done at home, some do require certain items listed in the ‘you will need’ section. All experiments should be carried out with adult supervision and adults should read the ‘Note for Supervisory Adult’ below.

Privacy notice – Data

We are collecting the following information to help with our evaluation of the ‘Investigate, Experiment, Discover’ project: post code data, how you heard about the competition, opinions relating to the science pack and age of children who used the science pack/resources. We will delete or fully anonymise the data after 5 years. We collect your name, phone number and email address in order to be able to contact you in the event you/your child has won the competition. Once we have confirmed a winner, these contact details will be deleted. Our legal basis for collecting this data is your consent. UCLan is the data controller and data will be held securely and will only be used by the University and will not be passed to third parties.

Photo Consent

If you provide your consent below, you are agreeing that the University can use images of your child(ren) in photographic format in any type of marketing materials including (but not limited to); University websites, on and offline publications, public relations messages and other advertising, such as social media, brochures, information leaflets, adverts, posters and other formats to promote the University and to promote University courses and activities at its partner institutions. You agree that the photographs may be used in this way without payment or further contact from the University, for the next five years. Please note that these photographs may be used together or may appear individually and may be edited. Photographs are held securely and will only be used by the University and will not be passed to third parties for their use. The photographs will be used for the foreseeable future but use will be reviewed five years after the date they were taken/collected. If you wish for the University to stop using the images please contact: In this case they will not be used in future publications but please note that they will continue to appear in publications already in circulation.
